Lucrezia Ring sz 7 3/4-8 US
A reliquary ring, or poison ring, for keeping your most precious belongings with you always. This ring features an orthoceras fossil - the remains of an ancient cephalopod that lived over 400 million years ago - looking much like the moon in shadow. Inside the lid is a representation of the moon passing through her visible phases of waxing, full and waning.
Poison rings have a long history, which has been traced back to ancient India. Aside from being used to hold a small dose of lethal arsenic, over the centuries these items of jewellery could be used to carry saints' relics, a lock of hair from a beloved, a message, or any other tiny items that might benefit the wearer in some way.
This ring has a relatively large compartment, making it perfect for holding herbs, small crystals, and other mementos of your choice.
The stone is an orthoceras fossil with wonderful crystalline depth. It is a tough stone and will easily take daily wear. Apparently this stone can be used for furniture, it's that sturdy. So, while the ring sits high off the hand, the stone should survive frequent wear.
