Châtelaine de sorcière

A châtelaine is a piece of functional and decorative jewellery that consists of a central framework from which hang a number of tools useful to the user. The history of the châtelaine is long and closely tied to women's history in Europe (and possibly elsewhere.) Ancient examples date back to the pre-Roman era in Italy. The Victorians loved their châtelaines, and they became as much a status symbol as a useful tool, with a huge increase in size, and elaborate embellishments in both silver and gold.

This châtelaine, which is part of the Threshold Collection, has been intentionally created as an aid for the working witch. It can be hung around the neck by a cord or the included chain, or pinned at the hip to allow quick access when needed. Each tool was selected for both its functional and symbolic use. They hang by clasps from a silver framework of fused Argentium silver. In addition, each tool on the châtelaine is removable and wearable as a pendant by itself.

The tools include:

A Box, decorated with both a flaming heart and an open eye. The Box has a close-fitting lid and a basic locking system to ensure whatever goes in, stays in.

A Knife, in fused silver. A Knife for cutting through obstacles. The Knife is not sharp, and cannot be sharpened as it is made of Argentium silver.

A Staff, with an open cage at its tip. A Staff for focus.

A Skeleton Key, in fused silver. A key to the Otherworld.

A Cauldron, in sterling silver. A Cauldron for scrying, for the blending of materia.

A Serpent, in sterling and fine silver, set with glowing green serpentine. A Serpent for the land.

The châtelaine is currently left bright silver, but it can be patinaed to darken the metal if preferred. Please indicate your preference for patina in the Order Notes.
